Marketing to APAC (the Asia-Pacific region)

PitneyBowes logoIf you’re doing business in – or expanding into – the Asia-Pacific (APAC) area, I have a really good 2-part best practices article for you to read on the PitneyBowes blog: Tips and Best Practices for Targeting an APAC Audience.

This article was written by our old friend, John Yunker, and touches on a dozen or so key points, including:

  • Host Your Website As Locally As Possible
  • Look Beyond Visa and MasterCard
  • Support Country Codes
  • Learn the Holidays
  • Don’t be Colorblind
  • Design for Legibility
  • …and much more

Also, even though he’s talking about APAC as the whole region, he points out that, “when it comes to expanding into a given region, the best thing you can do is quickly narrow your focus to one or two specific countries.” Think of it this way: you don’t typically target “Europe” – you target France or Portugal or whatever. Same goes for APAC – there’s quite a variation in language, culture and expectations, so don’t make the mistake of lumping them all together.

As always, John provides just enough of an explanation and many visual examples, so when it’s time for you to create your company’s APAC marketing strategy, take a few minutes and learn from the globalization expert.
